Making Computers See Like Humans Lead Portuguese Scientists to the USA

To make computers "see like humans", recognizing the relationships between objects is the challenge of two young Portuguese scientists in the United States. José Jerónimo Rodrigues and Ricardo Cabral, who are doctoral students of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program, are now completing their internships at the Industrial Light & Magic and the Qualcomm, respectively.

Rui Prior Said: "Graduate Courses at Carnegie Mellon are More Research Oriented"

Rui Prior is an assistant professor at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto (FCUP) and researcher from the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) who spent four months (April to July, 2011) at Carnegie Mellon University, in the scope of the Faculty Exchange Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program.

Novabase Creates Software Engineering Group with Carnegie Mellon Portugal Alumni

The first Novabase students that were enrolled in the Professional Master program in Software Engineering in the scope of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal program graduated one and a half year ago. Upon their return to the company, the question among the Novabase managers was: should these employees return to their former business area or should Novabase create a dedicated group exclusively focused on the software engineering field?

Pedro Oliveira's Paper Receives 2nd Best Paper Award Innovation Management 2011

The paper "Users as Service Innovators: The Case of Banking Services", Research Policy, 40 (6), 806-818) written by Pedro Oliveira, professor at the Católica – Lisbon School of Business and Economics and coordinator of the the Doctoral Program in Technological Change and Entrepreneurship (TCE), and Eric von Hippel, from Sloan School of Management (MIT), has won the 2nd Best Paper Award Innovation Management 2011. The paper was selected out of over recently published papers and the final round was held at the EBS Business School in Germany on July 26th, where the three finalists of this challenge presented their papers.

2011 Carnegie Mellon Portugal Student Orientation Day in Portugal

The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program is organizing the Orientation Day for the newly enrolled students who are starting their academic year 2011/2012 in Portugal, as well as for the students that are coming to Portugal for the first time. The goal of the event is to give the opportunity to these students to learn more about the partnership, the alumni chapter, and also about the role of the Science and Technology Park as an Interface between the University and the Market in Portugal. This year the Orientation Day will be held in Porto on September 24th, and the chosen venue is the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP).
